David Gibson met Roy in an unusual setting and was intrigued by what he saw. David spent hours interviewing and filming this story.
In David's own words, "Roy is one of those unique individuals that you meet and cannot forget. Roy possesses a love for music and an indomitable spirit. He is also a great entertainer. But mostly, Roy is a Texan and a good friend to those around him. I hope this video shows Roy's character and the fact that he is character. There are not many like Roy.
Roy performed at the Wilson County Fair in Lebanon, Tennessee for long-time friend, Melvin Sloan. Roy referred to this band as the Thoroughbreds of musicians.
Mathan Holt, promoter and MC, introduced Roy and he played Texas Gals, after his Texas joke. Looking on is Rhonda Vincent, Lizzie of the Little Roy & Lizzie Show, and several talented local musicians and vocalists who entertained the crowd. Little Roy Lewis joined in on the banjo. These entertainers were backed by an awesome ALL STAR BAND at University Station in Auburn, Alabama.

Roy composed and recorded this tune with Charlie Brown in the mid '50s on a wire recorder when he was only 16 years old. Roy called it Back to B Beat Boogie. Years later, Charlie renamed the tune Pickin'. It is unknown if there is a copyright but I am having issues uploading this audio file due to a possible copyright infringement. Roy is shown here playing HIS original tune, Back to B Beat Boogie, a '50s Rock-a-billy tune. (Roy Thackerson Video to be uploaded soon).
