On the ROAD

Our time on the road with
friends and musicians that we meet
along "lifes highway."

Weed Cafe Weed, New Mexico
Roy and Jr. Daughtery

"They say MUSIC is the universal language
and is the song of the soul. We are the music
makers and the dreamers of dreams."

My wife, Donna, and I paid an unexpected visit in Pinon, New Mexico to the home of Jr. Daugherty and his wife Judy. They were such gracious hosts and nothing doing that we spend the night. Jr. and I had a great jam session and later that evening performed at the Weed Cafe in Weed just a few miles from Jr.'s home. It was an honor to play with the best ALL-AROUND FIDDLER I have ever known.

Mountain View, Arkansas May 2013
Roy and Eddie "Now this is a G Chord ED"

Eddie SHAFER, a talented guitar picker, hails from Nebraska and is a frequent visitor to Mountain View, Arkansas; a great place to play music and enjoy meeting new friends as well as visiting with old onesIt's always a pleasure to sit and pick with Eddie!

Station Inn Nashville, Tn. 2010
Roy performing with the Time Jumpers with Vince Gill checking out Roy's fingering technique

The Station Inn was home to the Time Jumpers in 2010 at the time of our visit there. A quaint place for some great entainerment pictured on the right are; Kenny Sears and Larry Franklin on the fiddle,  Paul Franklin,  steel guitar, Jeff Taylor, accordian, Andy Reiss, rhythm guitar, Vince Gill, lead guitar, Dennis Crouch , upright bass and Rick Vaughn on the drums. Not shown are two lovely ladies who are vocals for this great band; Dawn Sears and Carolyn Martin. You never knew who would be called to the stage for an emprompt performance as many Nashville celebrities visited the Station Inn. On one occasion, Donna ran into Billy Walker and he ask, "Where's Thack?" A Texas Panhandle tradition was to shorten a person's last name. What a loss to country music. We visited on numerous occasions with our friend, Melvin Sloan, and Melvin and I would be called on to perform. What a thrill it was to perform with these A-list musicians, theTime Jumpers.

Long Hollow Jamboure 2005
Roy and Melvin Sloan

Another quaint place to we had the opportunity to visit was the Long Hollow Jamboree in Goodlettsville, Tn. Melvin Sloan and I performed and met some really good musicians. I especially enjoyed meeting a talented young  lady, Misty Hayes, a fiddler who played in the band.

It's always fun to play with our friends at the Pizza House in Clyde, Texas and we all enjoy an evening of visiting with friends, playing music and eating. Four and More are backing me as I perform this particular evening; Pictured on the left (left to right) are: Jay on the bass, Si on rhythm guitar, Clint on the pedal steel.  My long time friend, Al Anderson, gave up his fiddling spot to let me have a little of his spotlight. Thanks Al!

Wickett Bluegrass Festival Wickett, Texas
Harold, Cindy, Donna and Roy

The Wickett, Texas Bluegrass Festival is one of our favorite places to perform in October-it's almost like going home for a family reunion. So many good friends who live there and many others who come to perform. Pictured above is Mayor Harold Ferguson on guitar, Cindy Inskeep on upright bass, Donna Thackerson on guitar and myself.
